Message from the President
Welcome to KOKWET, the fastest-growing Kenyan community association in New South Wales. It is a joy seeing more and more of us come together, determined to preserve our heritage and carry it forward through future generations. Our cultural identity is not something we leave behind at the airport. It is living, breathing, and ever-present through language, food, values, and the spirit of togetherness we grew up on.
This organisation draws its life from a vibrant community spread across Sydney and the surrounding regions. A heartfelt thank you to our chapters and members in Newcastle, Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Wollongong, Tamworth, and countless other towns that proudly carry the KOKWET flag. You are the heartbeat of everything we do.
I am tremendously proud to be leading this revolutionary organisation of Kenyans living and working in Australia. KOKWET’s journey has been built on a strong foundation laid by dedicated leaders before us, and we continue to grow in leaps and bounds. Today, we have a functional welfare program that has provided over AUD 15,000 in support to members in moments of grief and loss. We champion mental health awareness, drawing strength from initiatives such as Social Junction and valuable partnerships within our wider community. We also continue to showcase our unity through major events, including the biggest three-day Gala ever held by a Kenyan association in NSW, hosting over 450 attendees from five states, as well as the prestigious KOKWET Sports Tournament where our current champions are the unstoppable NSW Kenya Stars Sydney.
Our vision remains bold and people-centered. We are building programs that empower our children and young parents. We are addressing real-life challenges including stress, drug dependency, visa uncertainties, and pathways to career growth. We believe that when one of us moves forward, we all move forward.
I am blessed to serve alongside a brilliant Executive team: skilled, resilient, and future-focused individuals supported by a network of community leaders who share a clear mission… to elevate KOKWET to its fullest potential.
This is your community. Your feedback matters. Your ideas, compliments, even your complaints are always welcome through our official channels. Together, let us create a legacy worthy of the generations looking up to us.
Karibu KOKWET. Let us continue building home, away from home.
